About Me

My approach: You are not a diagnosis, you are a unique and amazing person. Whether you're struggling with substance abuse, old trauma, work or home stressors, together we'll help you become the best version of yourself. My primary focus is psychiatric evaluation and medication management. However, I believe in the mind/body/spirit connection that even the best medication needs supportive therapy. Therefore, I also use CBT and mindfulness therapy to address the emotions behind the symptoms. Examples include improving self awareness to help you recognize triggers & reactions; Emotional expression- what you feel and when; Self worth- how it leads to self destructive patterns; Guilt and other forms of negative but powerful thoughts.
My education: I have a Doctor of Medical Science degree in Psychiatry. I practice as a Physician Associate and carry an additional board certification in Psychiatry. What this translates to, besides a lot of letters after my name, is that I have extensive training in mental health. I spent 10 years working in family practice and women's health before transitioning to psychiatry, and have been doing this for an additional 8 years. Having a medical background makes me better equipped for patients who have physical needs as well as emotional ones.
My life: I was a police dispatcher and paramedic before going to PA school. I specialize in military and first responders as I've walked in that world. I'm married with 2 teenagers and a boxer named Bubba who is usually present for telehealth visits, but it's ok, he's knows how to keep a secret :-) I offer free 15 min consults as I know how important it is to have a good fit with your provider and vice versa.
